The Wrath of God

Posted on

Today's Gospel reading is the Beatitudes from Luke's Gospel. It differs from Matthew's account in that here, Jesus includes not just blessings, but woes.

In our first reading from Colossians 3, St. Paul gives lessons on how to live, and the consequences of not living right. "Put to death, then, the parts of you that are earthly: immorality, impurity, passion, evil desire and the greed that is idolatry. Because of these the wrath of God is coming upon the disobedient."

We know that God is a loving and merciful God. But we also know that He is a just God. This idea that St. Paul talks about - the wrath of God - is one that we almost never hear about these days. But St. Paul makes it very clear that it is still a thing. I would like to avoid the wrath of God, wouldn't you? If yes, then read St. Paul's instructions on how to do that.

Father, may we conduct our live so as to avoid your wrath, by accepting your grace and living our lives in Christ. Amen.
