In today's first reading from Haggai 2, the LORD once again addresses the people regarding the building of the temple in Jerusalem.
"And take courage, all you people of the land, says the LORD, and work!" "And in this place I will give you peace, says the LORD of hosts!"
Have you ever built something from scratch? A painting, a poem, a song, a birdhouse, a company, a relationship, a family, a meal? When you do, there's always a payoff. It may be financial, spiritual or just a deep sense of satisfaction. The payoff for the people who helped build the temple would be peace. I believe when we work to build the Kingdom, we'll receive that same gift.
Father, give us the strength to work to build the Kingdom, and grant us peace. Amen.
