Jesus is often referred to as "the new Moses." The similarities between the two are striking.
In today's first reading from Deuteronomy 18, Moses says, "A prophet like me will the LORD, your God, raise up for you from among your own kin; to him you shall listen." Moses was known as the law giver, because he brought the Commandments from God.
In today's Gospel reading from Mark 1, Jesus was teaching in the synagogue at Capernaum. "The people were astonished at his teaching, for he taught them as one having authority and not as the scribes." As Moses was the law giver, Jesus, with his authority, becomes the new law giver. As such, we should obey Him.
Father, may we live our lives by the teachings and commandments of your Son, Christ Jesus, the new law giver. Amen.
Gus,
Would you comment on the message intended in todays second reading regarding people married and unmarried?
Thanks,
