Do you ever find yourself bored at Mass? Your mind wanders, you're looking around at what others are wearing or thinking about how good that donut is going to taste after Mass. It happens to all of us.
If only we had a greater comprehension of what Holy Mass is really all about. We get a reminder in today's first reading from Hebrews 12. "No, you have approached Mount Zion and the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem, and countless angels in festal gathering, and the assembly of the firstborn enrolled in heaven, and God the judge of all, and the spirits of the just made perfect, and Jesus, the mediator of a new covenant, and the sprinkled Blood that speaks more eloquently than that of Abel."
All of that is happening every time we go to Mass. We are with the angels and saints, worshiping our King in the heavenly Jerusalem. We need to ask the Lord to open our spiritual eyes to see the amazing miracle that unfolds right before us at every Mass. Read that passage again, and be filled with holy awe the next time - and every time - you go to Holy Mass.
Father, help us to see the reality of what we experience at Holy Mass. May we be filled with awe as we experience the heavenly Jerusalem right where we are. Amen.
