Son of Man

Posted on

In today’s first reading from Daniel 7, we see the term “son of man” first used. This is the phrase that Jesus used more than any other to refer to himself. In the Gospel reading from Luke 21, Jesus says, “Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will not pass away.” Let us make sure that Jesus’ words are alive and well in our hearts.

Here is what Daniel saw in his vision: “One like a son of man coming, on the clouds of heaven; When he reached the Ancient One and was presented before him, He received dominion, glory, and kingship; nations and peoples of every language serve him. His dominion is an everlasting dominion that shall not be taken away, his kingship shall not be destroyed.” Of course, we know that Daniel saw Jesus.

Is this the way the you see Jesus? I think we all perceive Jesus in many different ways. Let’s make sure that this notion of the Son of Man is one of them. An everlasting king. One to whom we give dominion over our lives. Not just for a while. But now and forever.

Father, help us to make the Son of Man lord of our lives. May we serve him always. Amen.
