St. Paul continues talking about faith and "works of the law" in the first reading from Galatians 3. In the Gospel reading from Luke 11, Jesus talks about the spiritual struggle with evil.
Jesus said, "When an unclean spirit goes out of someone, it roams through arid regions searching for rest but, finding non, it says, 'I shall return to my home from which I came.' But upon returning, it finds it swept clean and put in order. Then it goes and brings back seven other spirits more wicked than itself who move in and dwell there, and the last condition of that man is worse than the first."
I believe this is a call for us to never become complacent. Evil is lurking everywhere. Satan and his minions are always at work. Even though we may have faith and trust in the Lord, that doesn't mean evil is going to give up. Satan is no quitter. So we must redouble our efforts every day to keep him at bay.
Father, give us all the grace and strength we need today to keep the devil away. Amen
