Hope is such an important thing. When we lose hope, we really lose everything. That’s why the final verse in today’s first reading from Isaiah 40 gives us so much. “They that hope in the LORD will renew their strength, they will soar as with eagles’ wings; they will run and not grow weary, walk and not grow faint.”
Jesus speaks in today’s Gospel reading to those who may be losing hope. He gives the solution. “Come to me, all you who labor and are burdened, and I will give you rest.” I think that about covers us all, don’t you?
Have you ever felt as though the burdens of life are just too much? Like you couldn’t possibly go another step, another day? Yet here you are today. Why? Because God gave you just what you needed to make it through. Maybe you asked for strength. Maybe you didn’t. The important thing is that God provided. And He will continue to do so. Put your trust in Him. Your strength will most certainly be renewed.
Father, help us never to lose hope. As we trust in Jesus for our strength, we know that He will never fail to give us what we need. Amen.
