Radiant

Posted on

In the Gospel reading today from Matthew 13, Jesus gives two short parables about the Kingdom of heaven; one about a buried treasure and another about a pearl of great price.

In the first reading from Exodus 34, we read about how after having his face-to-face meetings with God, Moses’ face became radiant. This was in a physical sense; he literally glowed with the radiance of God. So much so that he had to cover his face with a veil whenever he came out of the meeting tent because the people were freaked out from his radiating skin.

Are we at all like Moses in this respect? I mean, do we radiate God? You see, being in the presence of God literally changed Moses’ appearance. I wonder if the same can be said for us. As Christians, we should understand that we are in the presence of God. Does this show, especially on our faces? I dare say not often enough. It reminds me of the old saying, If you’re happy, let your face know. How about a minor modification for us? If you love God, let your face know, so that others may see Him radiating through you!

Father, may we be ever more aware of your presence. As Moses did, may we radiate you to others. Amen.
