His Own

Posted on

In today's Gospel reading from Matthew 13, Jesus explains the parable of the weeds in the field. In the first reading from Exodus 33 and 34, we see a beautiful prayer of Moses to the LORD.

Moses said, "If I find favor with you, O LORD, do come along in our company. This is indeed a stiff-necked people; yet pardon our wickedness and sins, and receive us as your own." God did just that.

The children of Israel were God's own people. He took them as his own. Do you realize he has done the same for you? Through your baptism and profession of faith, you have been received into the family of God. You are his own. Meditate on that today. Realize the amazing privilege you have been given to be God's own.

Father, we thank you for receiving us as your own. May we never take that for granted. Amen.
