We read more about the disobedience of the Israelites in today's first reading from Hosea 8. The people had gone astray, and punishment awaited.
In today's Gospel reading from Matthew 9, Jesus says, “The harvest is abundant but the laborers are few; so ask the master of the harvest to send out laborers for his harvest.” You know, those words still hold true today. The harvest is abundant, but the laborers are few. I hope that you realize that God is calling you to be one of those laborers in the field. If you have never thought of yourself in this light, I hope you will do that today.
Priests are very special laborers in God’s field. We need to be sure to fulfill this command from Jesus and be praying for vocations to the priesthood. Is this something that you do on a regular basis? If not, why? Perhaps you know of a young man that you think has the makings of a good priest. Pray for him. And ask him to consider whether or not God may be calling him.
Father, we thank you for calling us to be workers for the harvest. We pray that more and more faith-filled men will hear and recognize your call on their lives to the priesthood. Amen.
