Our Lady of Fatima

Posted on

Today is the Feast of Our Lady of Fatima. There are not specific readings for this feast day, but I want to reflect on this today. Of course, the link to the daily readings will give you the readings for Saturday of the Fourth Week of Easter.

It was one hundred years ago today that the Blessed Virgin Mary first appeared to the three shepherd children in Fatima, Portugal. During the numerous apparitions, Our Lady gave the children many messages. This was during World War I, and Mary told the children of another terrible war to come, World War II. She also told of the grave threat posed by Communist Russia.

Mary gave the children instructions to share with the world. She said we must repent and do penance for our sins. And she asked that the Rosary be prayed daily. Saint John Paul II credits Our Lady of Fatima with saving him from an assassin’s bullet. On this 100th anniversary of the first apparition, let us pray the Rosary, do penance and give our all to her most holy Son.

Father, we thank you for sending Our Lady to bring us the message of peace. May we heed her words and return to Jesus with all our hearts. Our Lady of Fatima, pray for us. Amen.
