My Life Verse

Posted on

Many years ago, I heard a guy talking about his “Life Verse.” I wasn’t quite sure what that meant until he described it. It was a passage of Scripture that he claimed – he made his own and used it as a guiding star in his life. I thought that was a neat concept, so I asked the Lord for one of my own. It is included in today’s first reading. My life verse is 1 Peter 4:7-11.

The end of all things is at hand.
Therefore be serious and sober-minded
so that you will be able to pray.
Above all, let your love for one another be intense,
because love covers a multitude of sins.
Be hospitable to one another without complaining.
As each one has received a gift, use it to serve one another
as good stewards of God’s varied grace.
Whoever preaches, let it be with the words of God;
whoever serves, let it be with the strength that God supplies,
so that in all things God may be glorified through Jesus Christ,
to whom belong glory and dominion forever and ever. Amen.

Do you have a life verse? If not, ask God to reveal one to you. It doesn’t have to be the same for the rest of your life. You may want to get a different one later as your life changes. Wherever you find it, keep it always in your mind and let it guide you always.

Father, may your word move us and lead us and guide us as we open our hearts, always drawing closer to you through Christ the Lord. Amen.
