Move Your Mountain

Posted on

In the first reading today, God tells the prophet Habakkuk to write down a vision. Then He encourages the people to wait for the vision to be fulfilled. “If it delays, wait for it, it will surely come, it will not be late. The rash man has no integrity; but the just man, because of his faith, shall live.” We read more about faith.

In our Gospel reading from Matthew 17, Jesus finds out that his disciples cannot drive out a demon from a man’s son. So He takes care of it Himself. When the disciples ask Him why they couldn’t do it, Jesus replies, “Because of your little faith. Amen, I say to you, if you have faith the size of a mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, “Move from here to there,’ and it will move.” Faith is, indeed, a powerful thing.

So, what is your mountain? We all have them. Those things that make us doubt; that we find so hard to move out of the way. Jealousy, lust, greed, anger, addictions…pick one that weighs upon you. These are the mountains in our lives that can be much harder to move than even Mt. Everest. But don’t let the size of the mountain discourage you! If you just have faith and persist in prayer, IT WILL MOVE!!

Father, give us the faith we need to move those mountains in our lives that keep us from you. Amen.
