In today’s Gospel reading from Luke 12, Jesus says, “I have come to set the earth on fire, and how I wish it were already blazing!”
Of course, Jesus isn’t talking about burning down the earth. Quite the contrary; He wants to build the earth up by sending down the fire of the Holy Spirit. He wants us to be fired up!
Have you ever gotten fired up about something? I’ll bet so. To be “fired up” means to be extremely passionate about something. This can be positive or negative. Many people are fired up about their favorite sports team. That’s not a bad thing; we all need an outlet. In fact, I remember when I was in high school, our cheerleaders used to yell, "Let's get fired up!" But how passionate are you about Jesus? How fired up are you about your faith? I assure you at some point your favorite sports team will let you down. Jesus, however, will never let you down. How about getting fired up about Him today?
Father, light a fire in our hearts for Jesus and for sharing the faith with others. Amen.
