Knowing Jesus

Posted on

We see a very interesting story in our Gospel reading today from Mark 1. Jesus drives an unclean spirit out of a man. When Jesus confronts the spirit, it cries out, “What have you to do with us, Jesus of Nazareth? Have you come to destroy us? I know who you are – the Holy One of God!”

Even the unclean spirits knew who Jesus was. I suspect that these days most everyone knows who Jesus is. They know about Jesus. But do they know Jesus? What do I mean by that?

Lots of people know about Jesus, but they don’t know Jesus. They’ve heard the stories, maybe even read the book. But they don’t have any kind of relationship with Him. That’s the difference between knowing about Jesus and knowing Jesus. We can only really know someone if we spend time with them. Talk with them. Share our lives with them. Where are you today? Do you only know about Jesus? Or do you know Jesus?

Father, we want to know Jesus more and more. May we nurture our relationship with Him daily. Amen.
