The theme of today’s readings is asking. The first reading is from the Book of Esther. The story of Esther is a wonderful story and I highly encourage you to read it. (Note: it’s not very long…an easy read!) Today we read the beautiful prayer of Esther as she comes to the Lord ASKING for His help as she prepares to go speak before the king.
Our Gospel reading is from Matthew 7. Jesus says to his disciples, “Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you…If you then, who are wicked, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give good things to those who ask him?”
Have you ever really wanted something, but were afraid to ask? Maybe you were embarrassed or you didn’t want others to know your secret desires. I’ll bet a dollar to a donut that you didn’t receive that which you desired. All because you didn’t ask. You know, it is the same way with God. Yes, He knows all of the desires of our hearts. But we still have to ask. Jesus wants us to have a relationship, an ongoing conversation with the Father. So don’t be shy! Whatever it is your heart desires, just ask!
Father, you always hear our prayers. Teach us to open our whole lives to you, to share our deepest desires, wants and needs. Give us the courage to ask. Amen.

God bless you for all you do. I read 60 Second Reflections almost every day. My parents used to “bet dollars to donuts” when I was growing up. I think you could get a dozen for a dollar back then. Just for the heck of it I thought I’d see what they cost now. Looks like you can still get one for $0.99 at Dunkin Donuts and even Krispy Kreme. Probably not for long. Not much of a bet these days!
