In today's Gospel reading from Luke 17, Jesus talks about the coming of the Kingdom of God and the return of the Son of Man.
He says, "The days will come when you will long to see one the days of the Son of Man, but you will not see it. There will be those who will say to you, 'Look, there he is,' or 'Look here he is.' Do not go off, do not run in pursuit."
This reminds me that we are all in pursuit of something. What are you pursuing? Money? Health? Happiness? Relationships? Status? How much energy are you using in your pursuit? I think you know where this is going. Are you pursuing Jesus? Are you pursuing holiness? Are you pursuing virtue? And how much of your energy are you expending in pursuit of these? If you're running more toward the first list than the second, you're running in the wrong direction.
Father, may we always be pursuing Jesus, through a life of virtue and holiness. Give us always the strength to run to you. Amen.
