How Does This Happen to Me?

Posted on

Today is the Feast of The Visitation, when Mary went to visit her cousin Elizabeth, who was pregnant with John the Baptist. Elizabeth didn't live nearby; Mary's journey was a long one, and she stayed with Elizabeth for about three months.

"Elizabeth, filled with the Holy Spirit, cried out in a loud voice and said, 'Most blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb. And how does this happen to me, that the mother of my Lord should come to me?'"

Think about that question, "How does this happen to me?" There are two ways that we may ask this question. First, in a negative way. "Ugh! How does this stuff always happen to me?" Or, in a positive way. "Wow! I'm so blessed! How does this happen to me?" Which is the more common way for you? Let's be like Elizabeth and be awed by our blessings.

Father, we're so grateful for all the great things that happen to us. Thank you!! Amen!
