He Knows You and Loves You

Posted on

The old existential question persists – Why are we here? Actually, St. Paul gives the answer to that question in our first reading from Ephesians 1. “…so that we might exist for the praise of his glory, we who first hoped in Christ.” Got it? You are here to praise God!!

In the Gospel reading today from Luke 12, Jesus talks about your worth. “Are not five sparrows sold for two small coins? Yet not one of them has escaped the notice of God. Even the hairs of your head have all been counted. Do not be afraid. You are worth more than many sparrows.”

This is Jesus’ way of saying two things. First, God knows you – he knows everything about you, even to the tiniest detail. He knows every hair on your head (even if there aren’t any left!), all your wicked thoughts and pet sins. Even through all that, the second thing is he loves you. He loves you immeasurably. I’m always amazed about that. Even though God knows EVERYTHING about me, he loves me still. Now that’s love.

Father, thank you for loving us despite all our baggage. Draw us ever closer to you each and every day. Amen.
