Grounded and Stable

Posted on

In today's first reading from Colossians 1, St. Paul reminds his readers about their conversions. "You once were alienated and hostile in mind because of evil deeds; God has now reconciled you in the fleshly Body of Christ through his death..."

But this reconciliation has a condition. "...provided that you persevere in the faith, firmly grounded, stable, and not shifting from the hope of the Gospel that you heard..."

Stability and grounding are very good things. What happens to a structure that is not grounded and stable? It eventually topples. So it is with our faith. This is why it is so important for us to continually be learning our faith - so that we can remain grounded and stable, not chasing after our every whim or the latest fads of the world.

Father, help us to remain grounded and stable in our faith, and to help others to do so. Amen.
