Epiphany

Posted on

Today is the Feast of Epiphany. We celebrate the time when the three Wise Men, a.k.a Three Kings or Magi, appeared to offer gifts to Jesus. Such an interesting story of these three mysterious characters! They traveled untold miles on a journey to see the newborn King. This should serve as a great reminder for us when we complain about a journey of a few miles for an hour or so to go to Mass.

Epiphany is a great word for this feast. Here is a definition of epiphany: a sudden, intuitive perception of or insight into the reality or essential meaning of something, usually initiated by some simple, homely, or commonplace occurrence or experience. In other words, an epiphany is an awakening. An awakening to a new reality. Perhaps you have experienced an epiphany in the past. I know that I certainly have.

My prayer is that every day will offer us some sort of epiphany. That we can awake ever more to the reality that God loves us, and that He is alive and working in our lives every day. And that we, like the Wise Men, will seek Jesus always.

Father, open our eyes and our minds to your great love for us. Help us to experience an epiphany every day. Amen.
