Great stuff today from Hebrews 6. The reading starts out “God is not unjust so as to overlook your work and the love you have demonstrated for his name by having served and continuing to serve the holy ones.” In other words, God sees your good deeds; He sees the good things you are doing in service to His Church, and He honors that. The Gospel today from Mark 2 shows Jesus getting hammered by the Pharisees because his disciples picked grain on the Sabbath. Be sure to read Jesus’ response.
We get another awesome admonition today from the writer to the Hebrews…”We earnestly desire each of you to demonstrate the same eagerness for the fulfillment of hope until the end, so that you may not become sluggish, but imitators of those who, through faith and patience, are inheriting the promises.” I love the word used in this translation – eagerness. It begs the question, “What are we eager for?”
We’re eager for Friday to arrive. We’re eager for the next episode of our favorite TV show. We’re eager for Mass to be over so that we can sit down to watch some football. Right? But are we eager to serve God? Are we eager to learn more about God’s Word? Are we eager to teach our children about the ways of the Lord? The things about which we are eager will show us our priorities in life. So…what are you eager about?
Father, give us an eagerness to serve You, to know You, to spend time with You, to share You with others. Amen.
We still have a few spots open for our upcoming pilgrimage to Spain and Portugal. Join me, Michelle and Fr. Leo Patalinghug for a life changing trip that features a day on the Camino de Santiago, Avila and Fatima. Get more information here.
