Do Not Be Afraid

Posted on

Happy Easter Monday! Today we begin a journey (an apt phrase) through the Acts of the Apostles for our first readings. In this Octave of Easter we'll be reading the post-resurrection accounts from the Gospels.

In today's Gospel reading from Matthew 28, we hear the very first words spoken by the risen Jesus. He sees the two Marys and says to them, "Do not be afraid. Go tell my brothers to go to Galilee, and there they will see me."

"Do not be afraid. Go and tell..." These words are so appropriate for us today. In this post-Christian era in which we are living, many are becoming more and more afraid to believe in Jesus, and to tell others about Him. Let us heed the very first words of the risen Lord and not be afraid to tell the world that Christ is risen! He has conquered death and sin, and so can we with faith!

Father, help us to be not afraid to offer up our lives for Christ, and to tell others the good news that He is risen. Amen.
