Burning Hearts

Posted on

Many of us wish we had more, so that we could be more generous. But generosity really has nothing to do with money. St. Peter speaks to this very well in today’s first reading from Acts 3. He says to a crippled man, “I have neither silver nor gold, but what I do have I give you…” What did he give him? Read it and see!

The Gospel reading today is the story of the disciples on the road to Emmaus from Luke 24. While walking along the way, Jesus appears to them, but they do not recognize Him. He explains the Scriptures to them and make Himself known in the breaking of the bread. They exclaim, “Were not our hearts burning within us while he spoke to us on the way and opened the Scriptures to us?”

Burning hearts. That’s what God desires. It can be so easy for us to become lukewarm in our faith. Sometimes our hearts can even become cold, hard and icy. This Easter, ask God to reignite the flame in your heart, so that we may be more like the disciples on the road to Emmaus. Though they were downcast, Jesus set their hearts on fire. He’ll do the same for you…if you only ask.

Father, set our hearts ablaze with love for you today. May we show that love to all, through Jesus Christ our risen Lord. Amen.
