Behold the Lamb of God

Posted on

Today's Gospel reading from John 1 contains a Bible verse that every Catholic knows. "Behold, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world." These words were spoken by John the Baptist at the Jordan river.

Why does every Catholic know this verse? Because it is said at every Mass. The priest holds the Eucharist aloft and proclaims these words. But are they just words, or is there something much deeper going on here?

So many people don't realize - or don't believe - that that consecrated host is ACTUALLY JESUS! In His sacramental presence, He is there, Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity. It's actually quite mind-blowing when you think about it. So when you're at Mass and you hear these words from the priest, consider the state of awe you should be in. You are truly looking at the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world!

Father, increase our faith, especially in the Real Presence. May we never cease to be in awe when we encounter Jesus. Amen.

I would like to share your 60 second reflection in a text message to my kids. Is that possible?
