Today’s first reading from Hebrews 10 is so chock full of great stuff! We’ll discuss in a moment. In the Gospel reading from Mark 4, Jesus tells His disciples something that should give us all great pause. “The measure with which you measure will be measured out to you.” That big measuring stick we use on others will come back to us.
We could take today’s first reading line by line and meditate on so much. Here are a couple of snippets for thought. “We must consider how to rouse one another to love and good works.” “Let us hold unwaveringly to our confession that gives us hope.” And this – “Let us approach with a sincere heart and in absolute trust.”
Absolute trust. This may be my greatest struggle, and I’m sure I am not alone. I trust God. Or at least I like to say that I do. And to a certain degree that is true. But if I am honest with myself, I have to admit that I withhold a lot of my trust. I suppose that in the end, if I am not trusting Him, then I am trusting myself or someone or something other than God. It sounds insane, right? And yet we do it anyway. Let’s pray that we can stop withholding even an ounce of trust in God, and approach the throne of grace with absolute trust.
Father, you know that our fears keep us from absolute trust in you. Take away our fear, as we trust fully and completely in you and you alone. Amen.

“Absolute trust?” I don’t believe that it is attainable – certainly not 24×7!
Even the Twelve had to be reminded of the need for faith the size of a mustard seed.
I had the privilege to meet an outstanding priest (Fr. Vincent Youngberg) some years ago. He pointed out that “Let go and let God” is much easier said than done
He added that everything he had let go of looked like a cat’s scratching post – with my fingernail marks all over it!
