A Loving Father

Posted on

Jesus came to show us the Father, a father filled with love for his children. More in a moment. In the first reading today from the Book of Esther, we hear Queen Esther pouring her heart out in a beautiful prayer to God. She is asking God for help in a dire situation.

In today’s Gospel reading from Matthew 7, Jesus says, “Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you… If you, then, who are wicked, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much  more will your heavenly Father give good things to those who ask him.”

A loving parent always wants what is best for their children. This is why Jesus so often spoke in family terms. Our heavenly Father always wants what is best for us. He showers us with blessings. Unfortunately, we don’t always ask for what is best for us. That’s why we should always be praying for God’s will in our lives. He may not always give us what we want, but we must always trust that our loving Father will give us what is best.

Father, we ask only that your perfect will will be done in our lives, and in the lives of all. Amen.
