In honor of today's liturgical feast day, the Commemoration of All the Faithful Departed, aka All Souls Day, Gus keeps a longstanding Seize the Day tradition and invites listeners to call in and remember loved ones who've passed.
Also, Gus welcomes Sister Lucia Treanor to the program. She's the author of the new book "Elwood: The Story of a Catholic World War II Hero," which tells the story of her cousin Elwood Euart, a devout Catholic. Like so many young men of the era, Elwood enlisted to fight in World War II and was aboard the SS Calvin Coolidge when it struck two mines with 5,000 men on board while en route to the South Pacific Theater. Elwood and many others were able to swim to safety but something compelled him to swim back and assist in the rescue effort where he helped free many men from the infirmary unit. Elwood himself wasn't as fortunate. He got trapped and went down with the ship. Sister Lucia tells his fascinating story. including the location of his remains by divers many decades later.
