Bishop William Medley of the Diocese of Owensboro, Kentucky calls in to talk about the destruction the occurred in his diocese and state at the hands of tornadoes over the weekend. He urges prayers and shares with listeners how they can help financially if they're moved to do so. If you'd like to help people affected by the tornadoes, you may do so here.
Later, Gus is joined by Catholic author Dr. Michael Patrick Barber who just released a new book on Ignatius Press called The True Meaning of Christmas: The of Jesus and the Origin of the Season. In the book, he dispels some myths, including the roots of the holiday being pagan. He also talks about the reason the Church chose December 25th to celebrate the birth of Jesus and how St. Nicholas became Santa Claus. He also talks about why it's virtually impossible to pinpoint the actual date Jesus was born according to our modern calendar.
And, Gus talks about how he and his bride Michelle have taken bowling back up. They haven't played in many years although that's how they met. Gus worked in a bowling alley and Michelle was in a league there. He asks listeners to call in and share how they met their spouses.
