Gus goes over a recent news item that took place in the Archdiocese of Los Angeles and involved two nuns who, over the last 10 years or so, embezzled approximately $500,000 in tuitions, fees and donations from St. James Catholic School in Redondo Beach, California while constantly telling parents the school was operating on a shoestring budget. One of the nuns, Sister Mary Margaret Kreuper, served as the school's principal for 28 years. The school ultimately decided not to press charges and their order agreed to pay full restitution to the school. Gus asks listeners if they should face charges.
Also, Dawn Eden Goldstein sits down with Gus in the Conversion Corner. Dawn is a convert from Judaism who, interestingly enough, was the first guest on Seize the Day after Cardinal Edward Egan 12 years ago. Check out her recent appearance on the Journey Home by clicking here.
And, early on in the show, Gus criticized the Supreme Court for refusing to take up two cases, out of the states of Louisiana and Kansas, where the lower courts refused to allow the defunding of Planned Parenthood. Gus accuses the justices, particularly Catholic justices Roberts and Kavanaugh, of punting on this one.
Gus since I am in the Mountain Time Zone I typically get your re-broadcast so I can’t normally call in. I listened with interest this morning about the two nuns from St James School. First I would say that we should all forgive them because that is what our Lord asked us to do. With that said I would say they should be prosecuted just as anyone of a similar crime would be, no more or no less. I would disagree on one point. The Arch Dioceses of LA is not the victim here, $500,000 is nothing to them, trust me I know. The students are the real victims. I know what you said and that the pastor also said nothing was impacted by the financial loss but to say the loss of $500,000 has no impact is ridiculous. The school directly suffered the loss not the arch dioceses.
I was listening to the show today and Gus started to solicit responses re: the pilfering nuns when all of a sudden he said he was getting some kind of noise in his ear phones so couldn’t continue. Suddenly, there was a break and then no more about them. Just wondering if some outside source told him not to continue this discussion!
