Catholic author and speaker Trent Horn calls in to the show to talk about the Catholic Church's teaching on socialism. Their conversation is based off today's First Reading from the Acts of the Apostles, which talks about the communal way the Apostles and many other disciples lived in the years following Jesus' death. Some pro-socialist people use this as an argument for their cause. Trent talks about how this is wrong and how socialism leads to persecution, both hard and soft, and can be rife with abuse, and not compatible with our Catholic faith. He details all this in his book "Can a Catholic Be a Socialist? The Answers is No and Here's Why," available from Catholic Answers Press.
Also, Gus talks about the injury his grandson Beckett sustained a few weeks ago while playing baseball. He was pitching and caught a ball right off the bat in the eyeball and had to go to the hospital. Although it was frightening, Beckett is making a full recovery and has heard from baseball Hall of Famer Mike Piazza and top high school prospect Caden McDonald, a Tampa native who sustained a similar type of injury on the same team as Beckett more than 10 years earlier. In fact, Beckett threw out the first pitch in one of Caden's high school games last week. Gus wasn't at the game when it happened, but he talks about how terrified his daughter Emily was going through the whole ordeal and invites listeners to call in and share their most terrifying moments and how they relied on God.
And later, Gus goes over some Catholic news/notes of interest, including a bill in Washington state has passed which would allow youths under state care to hide any gender transition surgery from their parents. Also, in Colorado, a federal judge exempted a pro-life clinic from the state's ban on abortion pill reversal therapy.
