Today marks a couple of birthdays of people in Gus' life. First, the Catholic Guy, Lino Rulli, celebrates and birthday, but, more closely, his son Patrick celebrates his as well. He's the "Good morning, child of God" kid you hear at the start of each show and top of each hour. Gus talks about how all his kids are grown and have started their own lives and how he and Michelle celebrate their birthdays. He asks listeners how they celebrate adult birthdays in their families.
Also, Gus talks about a couple of pro-life news stories, including a U.S. District Court judge halting the state of Colorado's abortion pill reversal ban as a religious liberty lawsuit filed by two Catholic nurses proceeds. Dede Chism and Abby Sinnett say this law violates their First Amendment rights and negatively affects women who took and abortion pill but then changed their minds. Also, in Georgia, the state supreme court has upheld the state's Heartbeat Law that bans abortions after six weeks.
Afterwards, Gus reflects on today's Gospel reading where Jesus tells his disciples that he did not come to establish peace on the earth; rather, he will be a source of division. Gus talks about how that is so true and has played out since he was physically among us. But, there's a greater message here. Jesus is a source of healing to all who welcome him so he can bring peace. We just have to be open to it.
And Bob Dunning calls in to talk a little college football with Gus. Before predicting the winners of this weekend's biggest games, Bob and Gus talk about the sign stealing scandal currently plaguing the University of Michigan.
Happy Birthday to Patrick. He shares a birthday with our daughter Kendra who also turns 29 today! May God bless their birthday and all the ones that share this special day!
