Some of the people Gus hears from the most in his ministry is parents who are terribly disappointed because their kids aren't practicing the faith. Gus always advises them to not pressure their kids. It'll come across like nagging. Rather, he tells them to pray that God will bring someone into their lives who'll bring them back. Oftentimes, the person who brings someone who's fallen away from the faith back to the Church is not a parent. It's usually a random person. Gus asks listeners to call in if God ever sent someone into their life that brought them back to the faith.
Also, in today's First Reading from 1 John, he tells us that "Whoever is begotten by God conquers the world. And the victory that conquers the world is our faith." Gus talks about a dark time in his life that he got through because of his faith and he asks listeners to call in and share a story of a time in their lives where the odds seemed against them but their faith carried them through.
And, Gus updates what's going on with the Catholic Church in China where new rules established by the Communist government there that target unregistered Catholics and Protestants. Gus says that Catholics, and other Christians, in that country are not free and urged prayer for them. In fact, Gus closes out the hour with a prayer for the Church in China.
