Iconographer Garrett Hines joins Gus in the Conversion Corner. Garrett talks about growing up with an artistic sensibility in a family that moved 17 times. He shares stories of being bullied, of going to the Church of Christ, which refused to allow musical instruments at their services, and his faith journey following a counselor’s recommendation that he seek a liturgical church. When COVID came along, he experienced a healing, and the pandemic gave him time to reflect more on Catholicism. He shares his story with Gus and his listeners and check out his YouTube channel here.
Also, Cardinal Marc Ouellet, the retired cardinal archbishop of Quebec, Canada and former Prefect of the Dicastery for Bishops, calls in to talk about a book he’s published called, “Word, Sacrament, Charism: The Risks and Opportunities of a Synodal Church,” available from Ignatius Press. He shares a brief version of his vocation story and his extensive career as a priest, bishop, and cardinal. He lays out the purpose of his book, which is to address what a synodal church looks like and what elements it must hold dear.
Since it's Monday, Gus does a little bit of Tell Me Something Good with listeners and also recaps his time this past Saturday emceeing the Eucharistic Encounter event at Amalie Arena in Tampa, which featured several speakers, including Fr. Mike Schmitz, and a musical performance by Matt Maher. Gus also talks about the Charlie Kirk Memorial yesterday at State Farm Stadium in Phoenix, Arizona and plays a clip of Erika Kirk saying she forgives her husband's killer.
