Gus returned live after his Seine River Cruise Pilgrimage in Europe. Yesterday was the 13th Sunday in Ordinary Time, which is a very notable liturgical day in Gus and Michelle’s spiritual lives. It was 39 years ago that the two experienced a profound conversion after Gus rescued his young daughter Emily from the bottom of a swimming pool and performed CPR. While he was in the throes of this harrowing ordeal, Gus urged God to take his life instead of Emily’s. She survived and, following a night of observation in the hospital, Gus and Michelle decided to attend mass for the first time in years as a gesture of thanksgiving to God for giving them their daughter back. They attended St. Paul Catholic Church in Tampa, and the Gospel reading was from the 13th Sunday in Ordinary Time where Jesus raised Jairus’ 12-year-old daughter from the dead. Gus felt that God was speaking directly to him in that moment.
Also, last week, while Gus was on pilgrimage, the Supreme Court dismissed Moyle vs. the United States, which sought protections for emergency room doctors and medical staff in regards to performing “emergency abortions.” The court ruled in favor of the United States. Gus is joined by Heather Lawless, founder of the pro-life Reliance Ministries and Resource Center, and, although she says the ruling is disappointing, it is by no means an end to this debate. She also talks about how “emergency abortions” are essentially an aberration as is the argument for abortion protection to “save the life of the mother.” She talks about how those instances are extremely rare.
And it's Monday so Gus engages in some Tell Me Something Good with listeners.
