Gus recounts a story from mass yesterday morning where, about midway through the Second Reading, an adult male and a boy came in with motorcycle helmets under their arms. As soon as they took off their leather jackets, the adult man began taking pictures of the boy, who Gus assumed was his son, and of the altar and posting them to his Facebook page. It was a big distraction. Gus asked listeners what they do with their cell phones when they go in to mass.

Later, Gus does a little Tell Me Something Good with listeners where they share recent blessings in their lives.

Also, a parish in Prairie Village, Kansas moved its Saturday vigil mass time from 4:00 pm to 2:00 pm in order to not compete with the Kansas City Chiets' Divisional Round Playoff Game against the Indianapolis Colts. Gus asks listeners what their thoughts are on this move.

Our family will take pictures before and after Mass when we are visiting a parish when away from home. We’ll post them on Facebook tagging the church and saying something like “Wonderful Mass at St. Andrew’s Church…”. We use it as an evangelization tool reminding others that are away from home on the weekend for things such as vacation, sporting tournaments, etc, that there is no such thing as a dispensation from Mass just because you are not at your home parish. Sometimes it is nice to see the inside of another church besides your home parish. And if one of our friends is in the area they might remember our experience and decide to go to Mass there. Just my comments.

    Hi Gus,

I was driving when you asked for callers to call and say what do we do with our cell phones. Well, I have no choice but to bring it in with me. We put our songs for Sunday Mass on Facebook.

I open the church and set everything up for our priest. I make sure the readers are present and every person to assist in the Mass. I also set the music which is listed on Facebook.

Before Mass, I will take pictures of the church because I also manage our Facebook page. So, when the church was changed for Advent, the navity scene, etc., I make those posts before Mass.

So, Yes, I take my phone into church with me. Then, I put my phone on “silent” for the whole Mass.

    Thank you,
    Liz Cardenas
