Today is the Feast of the Immaculate Conception and clears up a few common misconceptions about it. He also explains why it’s a holy day of obligation in most U.S. dioceses but not all.
Also, Gus is joined by Catholic author Tess Livingstone all the way from Australia to talk about her new biography, “George Cardinal Pell: Pax Invictis, a Biography,” available from Ignatius Press. This definitive biography traces the late cardinal’s life from his childhood in Australia to his role as Vatican treasurer; through his trials, unjust imprisonment and exoneration to his untimely death in January 2023. Tess and Gus have a deep discussion about the tall churchman who started off playing rugby during his youth in Melbourne.
Later, Gus is joined by Cross Catholic Outreach’s President Michele Sagarino who calls in to talk about their Box of Joy. They’re Christmas gifts sent to children in developing countries like Haiti, Malawi and the Dominican Republican and are filled with toys, clothing, school supplies, a rosary and the Story of Jesus.
And it's Monday, so Gus does a couple of rounds of Tell Me Something Good with listeners.
