Happy Easter! Alleluia, alleluia! He is Risen, He is Risen indeed! Gus invites listeners to call in and share their Easter mass experience. He asks them how well attended it was and what their priest's homily was about.
Gus also invites newly-minted Catholics to call in and share their Easter vigil mass experience during his Tell Me Something Good segment.
And Fr. Jeffrey Kirby calls in to talk about his new book "Understanding the Bible: A Catholic Guide to Applying God's Word to Your Life Today."
Happy Easter Gus!
Thank you for your ministry. I’ve called in a few times on Fridays asking for prayers and other times when I’ve been able to listen to the show live. Thank you for including my intentions with your prayer warriors. I listened to the re-broadcast yesterday and wasn’t able to call in live but wanted to share my Easter weekend experience. I belong to St. Francis of Assisi church in Windsor, Ontario.
Unfortunately, our pastor came down with covid after the Mass of the Lord’s Supper and he had a fellow Franciscan come from the Toronto area to take his place so that we could still have the rest of the Holy Week services and masses in the Croatian language. He is a young priest that I had the honour to visit with while he was in town as it was his first time at our parish. He came from Croatia in 2020 and has had very little exposure to Canada due to the covid restrictions that were just recently lifted. His homily on Easter Sunday started with a very powerful statement. After he said Happy Easter to the congregation he welcomed us to, “The Day that makes all other days matter.” That was really impactful for me. He emphasized that we constantly need to acknowledge Jesus’ resurrection and that it is the means by which we are saved. He also went on to talk about Mother Mary and Mary Magdeline and the importance of women in the faith. After mass, he was standing just outside the doors wishing everyone Happy Easter. I paused and thanked him for coming on such short notice and looked forward to seeing him again. There was boy right behind me who he said in a bright, positive voice, “You’re a pretty good priest!” The young priest beamed and repeated what he said, gave the boy a high five, and they chatted for a bit.
It was a great way to start our Easter celebration as we were able to host our family for Easter lunch which we haven’t been able to do for 2 years.
Thank you again for listening and for your daily ministry. My wife and I purchased your “Minute in the Church” series a few years ago and gave copies to all our Godchildren and nieces and nephews.
Take care and God Bless you and your family.
