Your Son Will Live

Posted on

“Lo, I am about to create a new heavens and a new earth…there shall be rejoicing and happiness in what I create.” These are words of the LORD from today’s first reading from Isaiah 65. Jesus came to bring about this “new heavens and new earth.” Have you been made new during your Lenten journey so far?

The first twelve chapters of John’s Gospel is called the Book of Signs. In today’s Gospel reading, we see the second sign of Jesus. A royal official comes to Jesus and asks Him to cure his son. Jesus simply says the words, “You may go; your son will live.” The man’s son is immediately healed.

There are numerous passages where people come to Jesus to ask for a healing for one of their children. It’s interesting how the illness of a loved one, especially a child, can bring about faith in God. This passage always reminds me of the need to pray for our children – whether they are physically ill or not. I can assure you that God will honor that show of faith on our part when we pray for our children and family members.

Father, as you love your children, help us to love ours. Bless and heal our children, and help them draw ever closer to you. Amen.
