Your Responsibility

Posted on

In today’s first reading from Ephesians 3, St. Paul talks about the gifts that God has given him, and his responsibility to use them properly. This is a theme that will come up in the Gospel reading today. St. Paul also tells us about a couple of gifts that God has given to us…”we have boldness of speech and confidence of access.” Let us today be bold in our words and go to God for whatever we need.

In today’s Gospel from Luke 12, Jesus tells a story about a servant left in charge of his master’s affairs. He begins doing evil things, thinking his master will not return soon. When the master returns at an unexpected time, he severely punishes the servant. Jesus ends the story with, “Much will be required of the person entrusted with much, and still more will be demanded of the person entrusted with more.”

This is a story about our responsibility to carry out the Master’s will. We must always be about God’s business. Unfortunately, we become complacent. We must not let that happen. Especially you! Because you have not only been entrusted with much; you have been entrusted with more. That’s a great responsibility. But God doesn’t do things for no reason. He has entrusted you with more because he knows you’re up to the task!

Father, thank you for entrusting us with more. May we never take lightly our responsibility to build up the Kingdom. Amen.
