You Are a Sign

Posted on

Today's Gospel reading from Matthew 18 is the story of Peter asking Jesus how many times he must forgive. Do you know how many? In the first reading from Ezekiel 12, God tells Ezekiel to dig a hole in the city wall and crawl through it while the people watch.

Ezekiel tells the people, "I am a sign for you: as I have done, so shall it be done to them; as captives they shall go into exile." Ezekiel was a sign to the people.

What is a sign? A sign is something that gives instruction, that points people in a certain direction. Have you ever thought of yourself as a sign? I believe God calls us to be a sign. People are watching you, whether you want them to or not. Thus, we must be careful about what we are saying and doing.  Because everything we say and do is a sign to others. We must be about showing God's love and grace to people. This reminds me of an old saying: You may be the only Jesus someone sees today.

Father, thank you for giving us the opportunity to be a sign to others. May we always point the way to you. Amen.
