Written on Your Heart

Posted on

In the first reading from Jeremiah 31, we see the covenant between God and the people. The LORD says, "I will place my law within them, and write upon their hearts; I will be their God, and they shall be my people."

In the Gospel reading from Matthew 16, Jesus gives Peter with keys to the kingdom. Shortly after that, He rebukes Peter, saying, "Get behind me, Satan! You are an obstacle to me. You are thinking not as God does, but as human beings do."

Is God's law, God's word, written on your heart? There's a connection between these readings. When God's law is written on our hearts, we won't be a stumbling block to him. It is those times we reject his word that causes us to be an obstacle to God. Let's study his word and his law, that it may be not just words on a page, but written on our hearts.

Father, may we go always deeper into your word and your law, that it may be written on our hearts. Amen.
