For today's Gospel reading, we read the conclusion of John's Gospel. Peter inquires to Jesus about John. Jesus answers, "What if I want him to remain until I come? What concern is it of yours? You follow me."
Ouch. It almost sounds like a stinging rebuke. Was Peter being nosy? Why did it matter what happened to John? Could Jesus' words ring in our ears today?
"What concern is it of yours? You follow me." There are times when we can get really caught up in the actions and lives of others. Now, I believe we should be concerned about others and their souls, but does it sometimes come to a point where we're focusing too much on someone else? Perhaps becoming busybodies or gossips? Most certainly. Let's always make sure that we're following Jesus and not obsessing over whether others are or not.
Father, help us to not be such busybodies and keep our eyes fixed on Jesus, that we may follow Him wherever He leads. Amen.
