In the first reading today from 1 Thessalonians 3, St. Paul talks about praying “beyond measure…to remedy the deficiencies of your faith.”
Today’s Gospel reading from Matthew 24 starts with Jesus saying, “Stay awake!” He then goes on to talk about how the Son of Man would come like a thief in the night. If the master of the house had known when the thief was coming, he would have stayed awake.
It’s a frightening thought having someone break into your home, isn’t it? But if you knew they were coming, you would be ready. The same is true with Jesus. As Christians, we know He’s coming back. It may be today, it may be a very long wait. But the bottom line is we know he’s coming. Are we ready? And are we willing to stay prepared for His return?
Father, may we always be ready for the return of your Son. Keep us ever vigilant and ever closer to you. Amen.
