Using Our Eyes

Posted on

In today's Gospel reading from Matthew 6, Jesus talks about the eye. "The lamp of the body is the eye. If your eye is sound, your whole body will be filled with light; but if your eye is bad, your whole body will be in darkness."

I believe this works in both directions - in and out. When we use our eyes to take in bad stuff - pornography, gossip, filth - our hearts become darkened. In the outward direction, we speak much with our eyes. Ever get the stink-eye from someone? Our eyes can speak kindness and peace to a dark world. Let's make sure we're using our eyes properly to take in and give out the message of Jesus.

Father, forgive us for the times we use our eyes for darkness. May our eyes always take in and give out light. Amen.
