Unexpected Return

Posted on

In today's Gospel reading from Luke 12, Jesus talks about being prepared. Prepared for what? His return.

Jesus said, "Be sure of this: if the master of the house had known the hour when the thief was coming, he would not have let his house be broken into. You also must be prepared, for at an hour you do not expect, the Son of Man will come."

If Jesus came back today, would you be ready? If you had a checklist to prepare you for that final event, what would be on it? For me, it would include only two things:
1) Put all your faith and trust in Christ.
2) Be in a state of grace.
How are things going with you? Are you putting all your faith and trust in Christ? Or are there other things: money, people, relationships? And are you in a state of grace? Have you been to Confession recently? Make your final checklist, and then check it daily. Because don't you know, the moment you let your guard down, there will be an unexpected return.

Father, help us to be prepared every moment for Jesus' return. Amen.
