Trained by Grace

Posted on

In today's Gospel reading from Luke 17, Jesus says, "When you have done all you have been commanded, say, 'We are unprofitable servants; we have done what we were obliged to do.'" Don't expect a parade every time you do what you were supposed to do.

In the first reading from Titus 2, St. Paul writes, "For the grace of God has appeared, saving all and training us to reject godless ways and worldly desires and to live temperately, justly and devout in this age..."

I love the term "saints in training" to describe the Church Militant. While we have to engage ourselves in that training, do you see what St. Paul says trains us? Grace! It is the grace of God that trains us. When we open ourselves up to His grace, our training in holiness will be supercharged!

Father, may we be always more open to the outpouring of grace you offer us daily, that our training will pay off eternally. Amen.

    I LOVE your mother’s response.
Those were the days when chores were done because they were expected to be done.
Today a lot of children always want to know what they will get if they help out. Missing the point entirely.
