Gus dedicates a lot of time to singer Tom Petty today. It seems that the singer is not a fan of the Catholic Church as evidenced by his new song “Playing Dumb,” which addresses the priest sex abuse scandal. In a recent interview with Billboard Magazine, Mr. Petty says that “no one’s got Christ more wrong than the Christians,” to which Gus takes exception and asks his listeners how they feel whenever a celebrity bashes the Catholic Church. To read the interview, click here. And don’t look for “Playing Dumb” on Tom’s upcoming album. It appears only as a bonus track on vinyl editions of the album.

Also, Mike Cadigan calls in today to talk about the NYC Mass Mob, which he organized not too long ago. It’s a grassroots movement where people vote on various churches via their Facebook Page and Website and the Church that wins the vote will receive a visit from the group. Mike was inspired to start the NYC Mass Mob after hearing Gus’ interview with Joel Oberst, organizer of the Buffalo Mass Mob, back in January. To learn more about the NYC Mass Mob, click here.

And, in case you didn’t know, this week is Natural Family Planning Awareness week and Dr. Gregory Popcak joins Gus to talk about the Catholic Church’s teaching on natural family planning and how it can work for you. To learn more about Dr. Popcak and NFP, click here.
