Think Bigger!

Posted on

Was Jesus an arsonist? One might think so from reading the first words of today’s Gospel reading from Luke 12. “I have come to set the earth on fire, and how I wish it were already blazing!” Of course, Jesus isn’t talking about setting physical things ablaze, but our hearts. Today would be a good time to think about how much you are on fire for Jesus.

We all know that with God, all things are possible. Jesus said as much. It is affirmed over and over again in the Scriptures. Seems to me, though, that we sometimes forget that fact. I’m here to tell you that God wants great things for you. St. Paul puts it like this in today’s first reading from Ephesians 3: “Now to him who is able to accomplish far more than all we ask or imagine, by the power at work within us, to him be glory in the Church and in Christ Jesus to all generations, forever and ever, Amen.”

We can be so good at putting limits on the power of God. It’s not that we can do that in reality, because God’s power has no limits. But we limit His power in our own lives. Why? I believe there are lots of reasons. Fear, doubt, lack of trust, attachments to the flesh – just to name a few. How about today we stop putting limits on God? After all, He is able to accomplish FAR MORE than all we ask or imagine. It’s time for us to stop thinking small. Think bigger! Unleash the power of God in your life and watch what God can do! And hold on tight…it’s gonna be an exciting ride!!

Father, forgive us for the times when we put limits on you. Help us to think bigger, to ask and imagine all that you want for our lives. We give you permission to bless us today! Amen.
