The Unforgivable Sin

Posted on

No one is beyond God's mercy, right? Then what is Jesus talking about in today's Gospel reading from Luke 12 about a sin that will not be forgiven?

Jesus said, "Everyone who speaks a word against the Son of Man will be forgiven, but the one who blasphemes against the Holy Spirit will not be forgiven."

So what is this unforgivable sin of blaspheming against the Holy Spirit? If you look a bit earlier in the story, the Pharisees accused Jesus of casting out demons by the power of Beelzebul. In other words, they were attributing the work of the Holy Spirit to Satan. This is blasphemy. In reality, any unrepentant mortal sin on our soul at the time of our death will not be forgiven. However, if we repent and confess, forgiveness is there.

Father, may we always contrition for our sins, repent and confess and be assured of your mercy. Amen.

    Susan,

It is never too late! You sound as though you have a repentant heart. Go to your priest TODAY and make a good confession. The Lord is waiting for you!

Hello, thanks for your article. Unfortunately, I am an.unbeliever, who committed the unforgivable sin. I am the most miserable, selfish, evil and stupidest. person on earth. I try to repent. I want to start over and have my sins removed. However, God won’t allow it. I have gone too far. I should have asked my pastor for prayer’ before I got to this point. I committed this sin over 2 years ago. Thanks. There is nothing I can do, correct?
